EXECUTIVE BOARD

Rohitkumar B. Vasa, M.D. (Chair)

Dr. Vasa became the Board Chair of AHS Family Health Center in October 2022. He retired from medical practice in June 2021 following an accomplished career of service in Chicago. Most recently, Dr. Vasa was an attending physician at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Northwestern University.

Before this, he was the Director of Neonatology at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Vasa was also affiliated with the University of Chicago Hospitals as an attending Neonatologist and Clinical Associate until 2015. Other past positions include Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Illinois Medical Center, Assistant Chief of Pediatrics, and Director of Nurseries for the U.S. Army Hospital at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Dr. Vasa earned his medical degree from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in Vadodara, India. He completed post-graduate training with a Pediatrics Residency at Beth Israel Hospital and Medical Center in New York and a Neonatology Fellowship at New York University-Bellvue Hospital and Medical Center in New York. Dr. Vasa is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the Chicago Medical Society, the Illinois State Medical Society, and the American Medical Association. He is board-certified in both pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP).

Dr. Vasa has been involved in many local and international organizations including as past President of the Indian American Medical Association in Chicago and he has led the American Heart Association’s “Save Children’s Lives” India initiative in the State of Gujarat with the goal of reducing the mortality rate of children under five years of age. In his free time, Dr. Vasa enjoys photography, travel, Indian music, running & bicycling. He has participated in several long-distance running events including 64 marathons (the most recent being the last Chicago marathon this year) and 3 biathlons.

Mr. James Luciano (Vice Chair):

Mr. Luciano has an extensive background in management, methodology lifecycle development and Information Technology (IT).  He also has years of experience with companies such as Accenture and most recently CDK Global. Mr. Luciano’s current position requires him to identify, plan and execute programs which are focused on cost optimization, operational efficiency, and improved governance for the Global Infrastructure Organization. 

His areas of expertise which is a major contribution for the Board includes infrastructure strategy, vendor management, and portfolio management. Mr. Luciano is also an avid believer in civic responsibility and has had active participation in Upwardly Global helping displaced skilled immigrants enter the U.S. workforce.

Ms. Fe Cabrera (Treasurer):

Ms. Cabrera brings an extensive wealth of experience in US Government and  Non-Government programs with the overseas civilian and military populations.

Coordinated the activities of US Physicians Inc., an (SSA) Social Security Administration Medicare Certified Home Visiting Doctors Facility (Physicians/Certified Nurse Practitioners/Physicians Assistants), a company that implements and executes a government mandate which is a “Prevention/Intervention Program” to realize the meaning of “Community Health.”

A fierce advocate for Community Health, Ms. Cabrera has worked throughout her career to bridge the intersections of policy, agencies, and providers to provide the best patient quality care.

Ms. Mariam Hassan, MHA (Secretary):

Ms. Hassan has been a dedicated member of the AHS Family Health Center Board for four years and recently transitioned to the role of Board Secretary.  With a strong background in healthcare policy, patient advocacy, and community health, Ms. Hassan brings invaluable experience to her leadership position.

Her professional journey includes roles such as Clinic Manager and Patient Advocate, where  Ms. Hassan developed and implemented programs to enhance patient compliance and foster interagency collaboration.  For the past several years, Ms. Hassan has worked as a policy researcher and analyst with various local and state institutions.  A graduate of Rosalind Franklin University with a Masters in Health Administration, she is deeply committed to addressing healthcare disparities and promoting equitable access to care for underserved communities.
